Emergency Medical

Upper Mohawk, Inc. understands that minutes matter when emergencies strike. The most favorable responses come from thorough training and real-time practice. We work with government entities, hospitals, private organizations, nursing homes, and community response teams to ensure they are equipped to prepare, protect, and save.

Hospitals and Nursing Homes

Physicians, nurses, administrators, security personnel, and other medical staff are on the frontlines of keeping citizens healthy and safe. Their ability to successfully navigate all types of crises is critical. UMI has a network of experts to offer the most up-to-date training resources.

We work within the guidelines of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Our proficiency includes—but is not limited to—assistance with physician credentialing, proper handling of hazardous wastes, and developing effective plans in the face of disasters. We help establish the protocols needed when a natural or human made calamity results in a power outage or loss of heating and cooling to medical facilities and nursing homes.

AHA Training To Prepare Everyday Heroes

Following the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines, UMI is here to ensure the people in your organization have the skills and certifications to respond to a cardiac event.

We provide the required training for Basic Life Support (BLS) so that participants can recognize life-threatening emergencies, assist with correct chest compressions, ventilation, and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Health professionals that regularly respond to cardiovascular emergencies need the Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) coursework and practice. UMI provides advanced training in these areas:

  • Perform effective chest compressions
  • Correctly use a bag-mask device and an AED
  • Recognize and manage respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Recognize pre-arrest conditions (i.e. symptomatic bradycardia)
  • Airway management
  • Related pharmacology
  • ACS and stroke management
  • Team communication

Additionally, UMI provides Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training, which is instrumental for healthcare professionals responding to emergencies involving infants and children.

Emergency Training for Government Entities

Enhancing government entities’ ability to respond effectively in all types of emergencies is the intent of UMI. Our services provide emergency management training at the local, state, and tribal government levels. We help develop skills through tabletop exercises as well as facilitating live practice sessions.

  • We are HSEEP Certified (Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program) and can perform disaster response drills at the Federal level.
  • We help ensure that essential functions can still occur in a variety of emergency circumstances through COOP (Continuity of Operations Planning.)

Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) for Native Americans

UMI enthusiastically and intentionally supports the Native American community across the US. We desire to help effectively integrate local emergency services into all the Tribal Government agencies. We’ve fulfilled two contracts with this goal in mind.

One specific example of the innovative training we provided was creating a practice exercise where a building collapsed with 20 people inside due to adverse weather conditions in Alaska. Outside help would not be available for 24-48 hours—this CERT service allowed for real-time practice, discussion, increased awareness, and problem-solving.

Tribal governments need to be NIMS (National Incident Management System) compliant to get funding before, during, and after a disaster. UMI developed a course to help all agencies meet these federal requirements and have trained individuals from over 46 tribes. The 2-day course included an introduction to FEMA’s Incident Command System (ICS) and a review of other disaster response issues.

We also served as a logistics coordinator between the Administration for Native Americans (ANA) and the Tribal Civilian Community Corps (TCCC). We developed an 8-10 day training program that included 40 plus hour First Responder training, CPR instruction, AED training, and a 24-hour CERT program.

Additionally, UMI created a Medical backpack to give each participant, that included the tools used in CERT and the First Medical Response program. Finally, we developed a large response kit to deliver to each TCCC location. It includes items such as AED, oxygen equipment, and a variety of other first responder equipment.
