Cultural Awareness, Native American


Course Description

This course focuses on the Native American population. Understanding the cultural diversity of the American society is becoming paramount to many businesses and organizations as they grow. Having knowledge of how different cultures function and behave allows each individual to have a greater appreciation for those cultures. It is important to understand that there is no Native American Culture, singular. There are many different Native American Cultures. The participant will be taught that there are similarities among the different Native American Cultures and what some of those similarities are. The course explores some of the differences and likenesses of the dominant culture and of its Native population.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this training session, participants will be able to:
  • Discuss results/positive effects of Cultural Awareness
  • Identify stereotyping behaviors and biases
  • Display an understanding of Native American history as it relates to the U.S. Government by discussing the effects of the history on the Native American culture
  • Develop strategies for self-presentation, interaction and understanding with Native Americans.
