Cultural Awareness, Native American


General Description

This course focuses on the Native American population. Understanding the cultural diversity of the American society is becoming paramount to many businesses and organizations as they grow. Having knowledge of how different cultures function and behave allows each individual to have a greater appreciation for those cultures. It is important to understand that there is no Native American Culture, singular. There are many different Native American Cultures. What the participant will be able to understand is that there are similarities among the different Native American Cultures and what some of those similarities are. The course will explore some the differences and likenesses of the dominant culture and of its Native population.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this training session, participants will be able to:
  • Define Cultural Awareness
  • Understand how your awareness affects you and others
  • Learn how to change your ability to be culturally aware
  • Identify and avoid self-stereotyping and biases
  • Learn strategies for self-presentation, interaction and understanding of others
  • Learn a new way of thinking

Suggested Course Length

This is a six hour course that can be tailored to fit time constraints. It is encouraged to take the full six hours a one half day course can be provided.
