The first large government contract was in 1996 as a teaming effort with United Defense LP to provide Cost Estimating support to the Army for their Crusader Program. 1997 UMI was awarded a subcontract to provide operational support for the magnetic tape library at the Defense Enterprise Computing Center (DECC). 1998 UMI became involved in providing programming support to develop and maintain a Management Information Systems for one of the largest Native Americam casinos in the country. In 1999 UMI was a member of the Logicon team that provided Y2K IV and V support io the Department of Interior. UMI also contracted with the Bureau of Indian Affairs to roll out several hundred PCs to the various tribes and provide support in set-up, loading software and converting and transferring data from the old systems to the new. In the year 2000 UMI contracted with the Naval Center for Cost Analysis to provide data collection and analysis support by designing a functional software cost estimating database specifically designed for estimating and analysis of Navy programs and collecting new data from key Navy contractors/programs for use in the Navy software database (SWDB). UMI also won a major contract to develop and implement comprehensive training in support of the Dept. of Interiors Office of Special Trust(OST) Trust Management Improvement Project. UMI also became an 8a program participant and a protege of TRW under the DoD Mentor-Protege Program. UMI expanded into larger offices at the main headquarters in Beavercreek,OH and opened offices in Titusville,FL; Laurel,MD; and Albuquerque,NM. This year UMI is preparing a proposal to revise its current GSA Schedule to reflect growth by adding additional labor categories . All the above mentioned projects have grown and have lead to increases in revenues and staff.

In 1999, UMI lost 3 employees due to a contract completion. The year 2000 saw turnovers in the main headquarters administrative support personnel as well as the loss of two positions due to the completion of IT support contracts with the Dept. of Interior and Burea of Indian Affairs. In 2001 due to project completions and lack of new work three more postions were lost. The majority of the losses expirenced by UMI in the past five years has been mainly due to project completions and administrative staff turnover. The turnover rate should continue to decline as the staff increases and new opportunities increase.

Applying the acquistion management concepts of Design to Cost/Life Cycle Cost (DTC/LCC) and Cost as an Independent Variable (CAIV), UMI played a critical role in establishing a high level of confidencein overal LCC management.
UMI with its team of subcontractors provided risk management, DTC/LCC and CAIV support to the Crusader project. The Crusader is a 155-mm self propelled howitzer. UMI also led the transition to parametric cost estimating for the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase of the program. This included training all members of the team on the techniques of parametric cost estimating and the use of parametric estimating software tools.
